White Pine track star might be Olympics bound

A trip to in Beijing, China, to compete in the Summer Olympic Games in August is probably on Zack Lloyd's radar screen. If it isn't, it should be.

He will compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team at the Olympic Trials this weekend. When Lloyd was on White Pine High School's track team in 2004, he was ranked first in the nation in the shot put and discus his senior year. Now he is viewed as a U.S. Olympic hopeful.

Lloyd just competed in the 2008 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. He finished fourth in the nation at the collegiate level where he threw 19.40 meters or 63-07.75 feet. However, he has thrown for longer distances. Lloyd went to the NCAA championships ranked as a favorite after throwing an even 69 feet to win the Pac-10 championships at Arizona State University recently. His throw of 21.03 meters was then ranked the best among college athletes in the shot put this year.

Good Luck and Congrats Zack!!!!
